Dr. Amanda Harter, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT
Amanda grew up in Goddard, Kansas and enjoyed being a part of such a supportive and involved community. It was Amanda’s experience growing up in the Goddard community that drew her back to her hometown to provide physical therapy services.
Amanda graduated from the University of Kansas with two degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Health, Sport, and Exercise Science and a Bachelor of General Studies in Psychology with an emphasis in personality, abnormality and health. At KU, Amanda was awarded the Josie Stapleton Honor Award which is given to one outstanding senior majoring in physical education based on citizenship, high academic achievement, and participation in extra-class activities.
Upon graduating from KU, Amanda was accepted into the Kansas University Medical Center Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. In DPT school, Amanda received the Student Research Award for her research study titled, The Effects of Collaborative Case Based Learning on DPT and PTA students’ perceptions of the PTA’s role.
Amanda was initially attracted to manual physical therapy after a clinical internship with one of the regions highest trained Manual Therapists at KU Sports Medicine and Performance Center. She decided to began her manual therapy certification while still in DPT school. She has continued to take courses, grow her expertise, and pass rigorous manual therapy certifications over the next 10 years.
Amanda began working as an Outpatient Doctor of Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. Here she would complete her STAR certification, a comprehensive cancer rehabilitation program aimed to create a multidisciplinary approach to assist oncology patients throughout their treatment and recovery. Through her career, Amanda has worked with many specialties including orthopedics, chronic pain, geriatrics, sports rehabilitation and conditioning, amputee rehabilitation, neurologic physical therapy and cancer rehabilitation.
Amanda is passionate about genuinely getting to know her patients, their journey, and how their pain or dysfunction is specifically effecting their lives. She strives to utilize these interactions to provide individualized care to achieve her patient’s goals.
As co-owner of Harter Physical Therapy, Amanda is passionate about cultivating a team that creates a positive and uplifting clinic atmosphere where patients can feel how much they are cared about. Since creating HPT, she is motivated to continue to provide an environment that provides patient’s the best care possible. It is especially meaningful for Amanda to be able to return to her hometown and provide the community where she grew up such a high standard of care. Amanda has participated on multiple school boards, and enjoys giving back to the community in any way she can. Since returning to Goddard, Amanda has even been inducted into the Goddard School District’s Hall of Fame!
Outside of the clinic, you might find Amanda picking egg-shells out of her cupcake batter as she enjoys baking with her 2 young kids, Kinley and Graham who are her big helpers in the kitchen! She loves spending time outdoors, hiking, and is re-energized by the beauty in nature. She is thankful for the mornings she gets to enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise with Gabe and her kids.
